Do you have enough orders?
If you have enough order picking work to run more than one shift operation, or have the need of evening, night or weekend order picking, then you have come to the right place. In numbers we see this being within the range of 200 to 1000 orders per day. It could also be much more, in which case one or several robots could take care of a share of orders
Does your order structure support robotic picking?
The ideal order structure is one that consists only of pickable items. This means the robots can pick the order 100% without needing to do consolidation work on the order to complete it. Also, to keep performance high and profitable, less than seven order lines per order is a good start.
If your order structure does not allow for 100% robot picking, no alarm needed. Performance can be achieved by letting our order picking solutions pre-pick the pickable items outside normal working hours. This allows the manual workers to just top up the remaining items within the normal working hours
Are your items (SKUs) pickable?
The robot can change its picking tool on the fly allowing for different types and numbers of suction cups needed. The only thing in mind is that the item is suction-cup friendly.
Suction-cup friendly items have characteristics like:
- Being smaller than 25 cm in any direction
- Larger than 3 cm in minimum 2 directions
- Below 3 kg
- Have a uniform non-porous surface for the suction cup to make its vacuum contact
An item that changes shape when being picked, like a bag of rice, is pickable but performance could be affected as the delivery sequence might need to take precautions to not damage anything.
