Standalone Order Picking Cell

You may automate part of your order picking processes one step at a time not loosing your manual labor flexibility. Start with one Standalone Order Picking Cell and expand with another or two when the business is ready to automate more.

Reasons to invest

  • You would benefit from automating part of your order picking operations with minimal intervention with the existing work process.
  • You would benefit from faster order picking resulting in faster shipment to you customer.
  • You would benefit being less dependent on manual labor stabilizing picking performance together with a low predictable picking operation cost.

What you get

  • A standalone unmanned order picking cell that only need to be fed with full storage bins and empty order bins to get to work. It is like a big vending machine.

Items to pick

  • Smaller, non-fragile, suction cup friendly items. Items not larger than 25 cm and less than 3 kg is a good fit.

Order structure

  • Orders with up to 8 order lines is a good start.

Performance

  • Typical performance is 10 to 50 orders per hour (dependent on order structure).
If you can make the robot pick evenings, nights and weekends, you may save a day or two on shipment time.

Capacity

  • You should have a need of getting between 200 and 1000 orders picked per day.

Infrastructure

  • If you have 100-200 square meters of space and a ceiling height of around 5 meters, all you need to enable automated order picking is power, Ethernet, and pneumatics.
  • This solution relies on bins for both storage and order fulfillment, so you’ll need a system for replenishing the storage and another for packing orders. We also have concepts available to support these processes.

WMS/IT integration

  • Our order picking solutions are designed to act as close to a human as possible where ´what orders to pick´ type of commands are more common than ´how to pick´ commands. Exception handling features also make sure order picking is being continued even if some restrictions are present.
  • These features and more should reduce the need of larger changes to any WMS/IT systems.

Business case

  • Automate part of your order picking operations while keeping the existing flexibility for those season variations.
  • Achieve faster shipment by picking orders outside normal working hours.
  • Predictable order picking performance and costs.
  • Less dependent on manual labor.

Risks

  • Any automation projects includes risks trust in the solution being the biggest.
  • Our solutions do not block for a manual labor takeover at any time for any reasons reducing the risk off critical production stops while waiting for the right service personnel (own or others).
